Forum Information

Dear users, I have decided to phase out the posting on the forums on this website and move any discussions over to this private facebook group. While the forums were great 10 years ago, they are now difficult to maintain due to constant spam. I spend most of my time just cleaning them up, rather than interacting. This, combined with finding it difficult to directly communicate with other users through several different social media platforms, I have decided to consolodate it all to one group where people can chat with me, ask questions and jibber jabber with other users on a regular basis. I will not make the forums offline as there is a wealth of content, but posting has now been disabled. Thanks to all those who have contributed over the years, and I'll see you over on the Facebook group! -Tom

Please refrain from trying to upload music using the "attachment" part of your post - unfortunately we are unable to host other peoples music due to bandwidth / copyright issues - the ideal way is to upload your track to www.soundcloud.com and post a link. If you have something against soundcloud, www.mediafire.com works and has an audio streamer.

TOPIC: Experimental Sound Design Piece

Experimental Sound Design Piece 7 months 3 days ago #25775

Hey everyone, first post to the forum but I hope I can contribute in the future!

I just wanted to post something I've been working and gain a bit of feedback.

So the idea behind this piece is that it's split into four segments, one for each of the elements. The point was to try to create musical ideas from nothing but field recordings, something I've been getting into recently. So the audio below features no drums and no synthesized sounds (although some synthesis techniques were explored using the field recordings). All sounds used for each segment are only related to that element.

Have a listen and see what you think.

Any feedback/constructive criticism is welcome :)

Thanks for listening!

I also ended up doing a series of videos covering some of the sound design and arrangement.

If anyone is interested.

yes that is fun. i did something like this a while ago. a friend ask if i could provide him with some sounds of a middle age workshop scenery for his developing game , especially black smith sounds. hammering on hot iron. hot iron in water and so on. i did it in a diffrent way. i wanted to use only opertor. in the end i took some of the sounds put them in samplers and made a little minimal techno track out of them:

A lot of fun! It was actually pretty refreshing to have the limitations in place. I think it forces you to think outside the box for sure. That track was cool. Like a sort of Golden Axe SFX remix :)
