Hey guys,
What is the easiest and/or best way to grab a small section of someone singing in order to loop the voice to make a long drawn out note. So as an example - Rihanna's We found love - I'd like the vocal to sound like this: "yellow diamonds in the skyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" in effect holding that "I" sound for as long as I'd like. When I loop it I hear too much of the end and start and it sounds choppy. How do I smooth this out?

Thanks

Easiest way I can think of doing it is using the ableton sampler (or sampler with looping and crossfade capability). Set the loop points to the "I" and turn on the crossfaders to smooth out the edges of the looped section. The other way would be in arrangement view to chop out that "I", right click on the clip and show fades. Adjust those fades to smooth out the edges and then duplicate the clip. Hope that helps.

Let me know if you find a better way. I'd be interested to hear it especially if it's easier.

Personally, I just zoom in up to 1/32 then I copy a very short sample in the middle of the sound and duplicate it tens of times :p

But the problem with that is the "stutter" sound at the point of each copy

nope because I select my small loop checking that:
- the small loop is in the 'regular' area of the vocal vowel (where the wave amplitude is quite regular)
- the wave is crossing zero at both ends of the small loop
- the small loop loops nicely

It's a trial/error process, but it does not take more than a couple of minutes to find the right loop.

Hope this help,
