Forum Information

Dear users, I have decided to phase out the posting on the forums on this website and move any discussions over to this private facebook group. While the forums were great 10 years ago, they are now difficult to maintain due to constant spam. I spend most of my time just cleaning them up, rather than interacting. This, combined with finding it difficult to directly communicate with other users through several different social media platforms, I have decided to consolodate it all to one group where people can chat with me, ask questions and jibber jabber with other users on a regular basis. I will not make the forums offline as there is a wealth of content, but posting has now been disabled. Thanks to all those who have contributed over the years, and I'll see you over on the Facebook group! -Tom

This weeks challenge is to take an sample of someone coughing, and somehow turn it into a bassline.

As an example, I isolated some little snippets of the sample in a Sampler, and looped it, turning it into a form of synthesis. I then used various audio effects to make it growl.

The new challenges are live streamed every Saturday at 1pm AEST, you can check out the recording of today's live stream here.

You can download project file (with included sample) I used in my video, in case you want to just jump in and start having fun.

We have a Facecrack group where I'll post updates and people are encouraged to showcase what they came up with.

If you don't do Facecrack you can watch the live streams directly on Twitch.

I wanted to use the bits I took out in "XTRA", but decided I'd done enough damage to the original, plus I couldn't find the looping wave to invert phase and rid of the annoying noise and clicks. Thanks for letting me upload my rendition here.

Here's mine on Splice and Dropbox! It was fun to play around with sampling such an abstract sound. Thinking back on it I kinda took the easy route with Sampler and looping endpoints but still learned a lot! Will be looking forward to the next one.
